The coward's way

I put a noose around my throat, left it slack. I laid down, tried to fall asleep. I was hoping that with time, through sleep and dream, I would wake having forgotten the reasons why I chose the noose to begin with.

But I awoke, pulled the rope tighter, somehow enjoying the agony.

If I cannot forget, then at least let me drift into unconsciousness, riding upon the waves of memory.

Yesterday was such a pretty day...
